Signs:
*Swollen ears, eyes & genitals
*Milky eye discharge
*Lethargy
*Laboured breathing
Cause: Mosquitoes are the main cause of myxomatosis in rabbits, but it can also be passed on from one rabbit to another.
How to prevent it:
*Mosquitoes proof rabbit hutches with shade cloth.
*Keep rabbits inside the home.
*Mosquito coils can help around the outside of the hutches.
*Still water is a good breeding ground for mosquitoes, so make sure you dont have any water in old pots or buckets etc.
What you can do: If you have multiple rabbits sharing the same cage, seperate them to isolate the affected rabbit. Bring any rabbits that you think are affected in for a health check by one of our vets.
